  • Author: David

Ingredients

Scale

Creating the perfect spinach and cheese fritter requires a selection of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup of cheese, shredded (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup of chopped onions
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)

Instructions

Preparing spinach and cheese fritters is a straightforward process if you follow these simple steps:

  1. Prepare the Spinach:
    • Wash and chop the spinach finely. Pat it dry with a kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to ensure even distribution of the ingredients.
  3. Combine the Wet Ingredients:
    • In another bowl, beat the eggs and add the milk. Mix until well combined.
  4. Sauté the Onions and Garlic:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onions and minced garlic until they are translucent and aromatic.
  5. Prepare the Fritter Batter:
    • Add the chopped spinach, shredded cheese, sautéed onions, and garlic to the dry ingredients. Pour in the egg and milk mixture. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated into a thick batter.
  6. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep frying pan, heat enough oil to fully submerge the fritters. The oil should be hot but not smoking (around 350°F or 175°C).
  7. Fry the Fritters:
    • Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, carefully drop portions of the batter into the hot oil. Fry each fritter for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Drain the Fritters:
    • Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve Hot:
    • Serve the fritters hot for the best taste and texture.
